Cumberland Conservation Collaborative – General Meeting
Meeting Notes – November 17, 2014 – Cumberland Valley Visitors Bureau, Carlisle
-
Rick Rovegno welcomed the group, and the meeting began with “for the good of the order.” Attendees are listed at the end of these minutes.
-
Around the Room:
-
Cumberland County Planning Dept.: Recommendations will be going to the commissioners next week regarding the spring grant awards. There are more applicants than funds so prioritizations will have to be made.
-
Central Pa. Conservancy: Received two grants, which allow a conservation easement project (from Appalachian Audubon) and a landowner outreach program in conjunction with other conservation partners.
-
CV Rails to Trails: Received $500,000 grant from DCNR for underpass construction at Centerville Rd. plus a $150,000 grant towards an overpass over Big Spring Rd. These improvements should extend the trail from Shippensburg to Mt. Rock Rd. in 2016.
-
GIS Dickinson: Always looking for GIS projects for Dickinson students. Contact Jim Ciarrocca (ciarrocj@dickinson.edu) if interested.
-
Conodoguinet Watershed Authority: Season is winding down. Last meeting of the year will be on the 18th (tomorrow) at Paul Garrett’s house.
-
LeTort Regional Authority: Received $7500 for upgrades to the trail including signage and work on erosion control on the trail entrance in LeTort Park. This is in partnership with the Audubon and Carlisle Garden Club.
-
Presentation on new Cumberland Valley Official Map: Ashley Kurtz (CVVB) discussed the upcoming revision and republication of the Cumberland Valley Official Map. The original map was published in 2011. The goal of this version is to include all experiential opportunities in the valley. All CCC members are requested to review the current map and provide input as appropriate.
-
Update on Carlisle Quest: The Quest will go live in the spring of 2015 sponsored by Partners for Health, Carlisle Parks and Rec, and the CVVB. Carlisle has approved all the 9 “goal” locations. The only expenditures expected will be $150 for engraving the Lucite goal markers and about $100 for framed completion certificates. This is a proof of concept project and should be expanded countywide later in 2015.
-
The next meeting was scheduled for Monday, January 26, 2015 in the CVVB Conference Room.
