Minutes 5-19-14

Cumberland Conservation Collaborative

Meeting Notes – May 19, 2014– Cumberland Valley Visitors Bureau, Carlisle

Rick Rovegno welcomed the group, and the meeting began with “for the good of the order.”  Attendees are listed at the end of these minutes.

  • Around the Room:

CVVB: Grant program for summer was passed out.  Added will be infrastructure improvements.

LeTort:  Clean up day went well – plus Garden Club planted 30 plants.  Looking at joint project with Carlisle Garden Club to plant and stabilize bank at park end of the LeTort.

Audubon:  Getting more requests to provide educational opportunities – but need to raise funds to meet youth education demands.  Also looking for money to fund a walking bridge across Rte. 74 on Perry/Cumberland ridge trail.

CSF:  Remaining money was transferred to CCC.

Rick:  Preserve Silver Spring has a committee looking at land considered for acquisition.  South Middleton Supervisors will be getting a presentation from PSS and will consider if they would so the same thing in SMTWP.

CWSA:  Have had regular cleanups – got flooded out of last weekend’s.  Big Spring WSA wants to drain McLaughlin Millpond to remove 7 feet of sediment.

CVRTC:  Thanks for trash dumpster.  Had April 27 race – lots of bicyclists.  Served lunch to 270 people.

CVATC:  Inspected parking areas vicinity Lisburne Rd.

  • Discussion regarding the May 3 Clean Cumberland Action Day

Agreed that more notice and advertisement is needed for a wider response.

3.   Discussion regarding educational role of CCC.  This is a continuation of the March CCC meeting discussion.

One of our goals is to provide resources and presentations on CCC member conservation topics.

Need to send a draft email to nights attendees prior to going to full CCC.  Once we have about a dozen presentations available, then advertise to potential consuming organizations (e.g. clubs, schools).  Become the County conservation education go-to place.

The next meeting will be at 6 pm on Monday, July 28 in the CCVB conference room.
