WHO WE ARE
Cumberland County continues to have the fastest growth rate in Pennsylvania, with a 10.2% increase in population between 2010 and 2020. What draws new residents is the mix of rural landscapes, thriving downtowns and strong local economies, a range of outdoor recreation options, and excellent healthcare and education.
Many of these assets will soon disappear if we fail to protect them in the face of continued, rapid growth. Balancing residential and commercial growth with protecting our region’s unique ecological, recreational and cultural assets is critical to sustaining our quality of life and all that makes living in Cumberland County special.
The Cumberland Conservation Collaborative (CCC) was created in 2012 to mobilize local partners to discuss mutual concerns about how growth is affecting the environment and the quality of life in Cumberland County. CCC is a non-profit, 501c(3) partnership of nonprofit and community organizations, educational institutions, governmental agencies, local businesses and citizens united in voice and action to enhance the quality of life in Cumberland County by restoring, enhancing and protecting our natural resources. The mission is to collectively foster a sustainable and healthy community that balances economic growth with the need to preserve and enhance open space, wildlife habitats, clean air and water, public health, and recreational opportunities.
WHAT WE DO
The CCC has established the following strategies to carry out its mission:
-
To promote collaboration and information sharing among stakeholders
-
To support new programs and funding that address identified conservation/recreation/stewardship needs
-
To support Cumberland County's implementation of the Cumberland County Land Partnerships Plan.
-
To provide resources to conservation stakeholders in Cumberland County about local conservation issues, volunteer opportunities, and active projects, programs, and funding opportunities.
